Ever since I first watched the movie "Braveheart", I knew that someday I had to write a song about William Wallace and the First War of Scottish Independence. And yes, I know about the historical inaccuracies! 😉 Many bands (Iron Maiden, Grave Digger, Sabaton, Manowar - just to name a few) have done it before, but I always thought I'd do it differently. It’s no secret that I have admired the late, great James Horner, so I tried to blend elements of his style with the B&R sound.
The first ideas for "Unite the Clans" came to me back in 2012. I kept it in the drawer for 14 years, revisiting it from time to time - rewriting, diving into history books and developing new skills until every single section felt right. I threw out countless versions over the years because I refused to release something that was just "okay."
A massive thanks to Sebastian Teubert-Wagner for playing the uilleann pipes and tin whistle on this track. It really elevates the whole thing to another level.
